Today’s post is the second part of our blog about how to get motivated to start a new year weight loss journey. Last time, we talked about how to get motivated again and again for the long term. Thank you for reading. In today’s post, we are going to talk about how to get motivated again and again for the short term instead of the long term. As what I’ve mentioned in my first post, getting motivated is an issue that affects anyone who wants to lose weight or start a new healthy weight loss journey. If you have difficulty with staying motivated while exercising, eating right and working out regularly... well... this article is going to help you more than you think! Here are some useful tips that might help you get started once again:
What’s holding you back from getting motivated?
When you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see?
In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, we have a tendency to forget what’s important.
It’s true that for a very short time, we are all perfect. However, if we forget how to be a human being, we forget what’s important. When we forget to appreciate ourselves and the people around us, we stop growing as human beings.
What’s holding you back from getting motivated?
You can think of it as the elephant in the room. You might be able to see it, but you don’t want to acknowledge it. You might be avoiding it because you don’t want to deal with it. What do you have to do to get motivated? Let’s take a look at some of the common factors that are holding you back from getting motivated.
- Guilt – We all feel guilty at some point for not being able to achieve our goals. This guilt might be preventing you from starting a new healthy weight loss journey.
- Perfectionism – When we set a goal, we don’t aim to be perfect from the start. We want to get better and better with each goal we set. All of us are not perfect, so there is no need to be afraid of failing. Perfectionism is dangerous because it will only hold you back.
- Unrealistic expectations – Many people expect too much from themselves. They might want to lose 10 pounds or more in a week. Sometimes it takes months to lose a small amount of weight. Unrealistic expectations are not only unfair to yourself, but also to the environment.
Break down your goals into SMART ones
What is SMART? SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound. These five words are the most important for goal setting. There are more things you can do when it comes to goal setting.
It’s good to break down your goals into SMART ones to be more specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. Specific – What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?
Measurable – How will you measure your goals?
Atainable – How much money do you need to achieve your goals?
Realistic – Are your goals reasonable?
Time-bound – When do you want to achieve your goals?
Find an activity you love and make it a habit
Like we discussed in part 1 of this blog, when it comes to exercise, most people don’t feel motivated to get started. You can try doing something you love, like baking, sports or yoga. I would recommend baking to get you started because it’s not only a great way to relax, but it’s also a great way to keep your stress levels down while helping you relax your mind.
You can use this to help you relax while you work on getting yourself motivated to start a new healthy weight loss journey. You can use healthy food to help you lose weight and keep you motivated to finish your goals.
You don’t have to spend a lot of time practicing your new hobby. It’s important to find an activity you love and make it a habit. It doesn’t have to be something that you’re going to do for hours each day.
