5 Biotics and Their Secrets to Healthy Living

zain

The terms biotic, antibiotic, prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic are related to the concept of life and your secrets for healthy living. Here is a brief comparison of their meanings:

Biotic: This term refers to anything that is living or has been alive, such as plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi. It also refers to the factors that affect living organisms, such as food, predators, and diseases. Biotic is the opposite of abiotic, which means non-living or never alive, such as rocks, water, and temperature.

Antibiotic: This term refers to a substance that can kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria or other microorganisms. Antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by harmful bacteria, such as strep throat, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. However, antibiotics can also affect the beneficial bacteria that live in our body, such as the gut microbiota, and cause side effects or resistance.

Prebiotic: This term refers to a type of fiber that cannot be digested by our body, but can be used as food by the beneficial bacteria in our gut. This is another secret to healthy living.

Prebiotics help the gut bacteria grow and thrive, and support our digestion and immunity. Some examples of prebiotic foods are garlic, onion, banana, oats, and chicory. Another secret to healthy living is listed here.

Probiotic: This term refers to a live microorganism that can provide health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts. Probiotics are usually bacteria or yeast that are similar to or derived from the natural gut microbiota. Probiotics can help balance the gut microbiota, especially after taking antibiotics or having digestive problems. Some examples of probiotic foods are yogurt, kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut. Another secret is listed here.

Postbiotics are bioactive compounds that are produced when probiotic bacteria consume prebiotics (fiber) in the colon. They are considered the waste products of probiotic bacteria, but they offer various health benefits to your body . Postbiotics include various types of bioactive compounds such as short-chain fatty acids, lipopolysaccharides, exopolysaccharides, enzymes, cell wall fragments, bacterial lysates, cell-free supernatants, and various other metabolites such as vitamins and amino acids.  This is another secret to healthy living.

Postbiotics have been linked to several health benefits such as boosting the immune system, improving gut health, and reducing inflammation  Although postbiotic supplements are not widely available yet, you can increase the number of postbiotics in your body by consuming more prebiotic foods and probiotics, since postbiotics are their end products . This is another secret to healthy living.
